LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener WiFi Connection

Revised: Tue Feb 27 18:30:30 EST 2024
Original: February 27, 2024

Could not get Liftmaster garage door opener to join WiFi on a UniFi network. Had to install a separate router. Used the Gl-Inet Mango Yellow router.

Got some tips from the Chamberlain Group

Symptoms were failure to join SSID. Stuck in the single beep mode. Never got to double beep.

  • One beep: connecting to router
  • Two beeps: connecting to internet
  • Three long beeps: successfully connected

Had to add router hanging off local network. Using a Gl-Inet in access point mode did not work. Had to be in router mode. Can't explain it. Those Gl-Inet routers are less than $30.

Called tech support, very nice and willing to help but could not solve my problem. Tech support did suggest a web browser method to configure instead of the app. Basic steps are as follows.

  • All button pushes are at the opener, use a ladder.
  • Press and hold the black button (between the arrow buttons) until 3 beeps.
  • Press and release the large yellow learn button 3 times. Will be some beeps and then the black button will flash blue.
  • Connect phone or computer to SSID something like MyQ-111. This is the last digits of the serial number.
  • Direct browser to http://setup.myqdevice.com
  • Tap "Start" and follow procedure.
  • When the page says "Did you hear three long Beeps", wait until you do, don't answer the question until you hear the 3 long beeps.
  • If lucky, all is well now.
