Apple Leopard Mac OS X 10.5.6 creates IMAP mailbox folders for To Dos. These folders are visible on the iPhone and are annoying if you don't use that Mac OS X feature. Its not clear when they get created but if you have ever clicked the "To Do" button on the Mail App toolbar, they are there. The Mail App hides the folders from the account folder list but the iPhone shows them. The trick to getting rid of the folders is to make them show up in the Mail App so they can be deleted. This howto is aimed at MobileMe accounts but applies to Gmail and other IMAP accounts too.
- Select "On My Mac" in Mail Preferences -> Composing -> Create Notes & To Do's in:
- Delete all To Dos in Mail App
- Quit Mail App
- Delete the special Mail To Do calendar in iCal
- Open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist with the Property List Editor
- Delete the value for Roots -> MailAccounts -> 0 -> ToDosMailboxName
- Delete ToDosMailboxName value for each MailAccount
- Restart Mail App
- Delete the "ToDos.mbox" or "Apple Mail To Do" folders
- Restart your iPhone and the folders should be gone.
To avoid any accidental folder creation, remove the To Do button from the Mail App tool bar by right clicking and selecting Remove.
Deleting the Notes folder is easier. Just right click on it under the "REMINDERS" section in Mail App and delete the mailbox. These procedures will remove the REMINDER section from Mail App too.
Excellent! Thanks. That was very annoying.
ReplyDeleteExcellent tip! Property List Editor is not installed by default on your mac, you need to install it from your install disk xcodetools (yes the complete package, unless you extract it using pacifist)
ReplyDeleteand these really works? I'll try a lot of hint and no luck till yet...
ReplyDelete** Delete the "ToDos.mbox" or "Apple Mail To Do" folders **
ReplyDeleteI can't really figure out where to do this step. Where are these folders located for me to delete them?
