The Sabrent USB RJ45 Extension adapter works. About 75 feet of Category 5e Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) was used to extend USB from an APC UPS to the monitoring computer in a different room. The APC UPS is a low speed USB device. The adapter claims it will work up to 150 feet. The adapter package includes the USB hi-speed emblem but I doubt it does anymore than low speed (1.2Mbps). The USB specifications are pretty strict about shielded and unshielded cable as it deals with radio frequency interference. This is a good product, does what it claimed and enabled monitoring of an APC BackUPS RS 1500 used for our home theater system. The apcupsd program is used for monitoring on a CentOS Linux system. The USB Extender is available from Amazon.com.
