The P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor is available from Amazon for $19.73. It is a simple to use multipurpose meter that includes VA and Watt measurements. Its been around for a long time and we finally purchased one. Its worth the price just to have a voltmeter on your home power. Occasionally when the lights flicker or seem to suddenly get brighter its handy to be able to quickly look at a meter to see what the voltage is doing. Keep the Kill-a-Watt plugged in just for that reason.
We purchased it to measure the power usage of our home theater and computers. We are considering a centralized UPS to eliminate the five small UPSs we have now. The Home Theater system consumes 345 Watts around the clock. The computer room consumes 169 Watts continuously. It was interesting to see that.
It won't do much good for voltage spikes and depressions, because those are pretty momentary. For that purpose, you need a voltmeter that records high and low voltages.
