Helios ESS AEBus battery addressing

Revised: Sat Nov 7 10:20:47 EST 2026

DISCLAIMER: This guide is for information only. It is not a vetted or authorized procdure.

The Discover Energy Systems Helios ESS batteries self-assign an AEBus address when they boot. If multiple batteries, 3 in this case, are wired via the comm ports they will form the AEBus. If they are connected to a LYNK II gateway the gateway will agggregate the data and present it to a connected inverter and also share it with the LYNK Cloud. The data can also be viewed with the Discover Access Application when connected via USB to a Windows computer.

The LYNK Cloud and the Access App display the batteries by the sequential order of the AEBus address. If the batteries are powered up in random order the apps will display them in the random order. The key to controlling the address assignments is to power up the LYNK gateway last.

This guide would be for a system with a Sol-Ark 15K-2P, a LYNK II gateway and three Helios ESS batteries. The battery comm ports are cabled from left to right, battery 1,2,3, and the LYNK II is connected to battery 3 which also provides power to the LYNK.

The LYNK can also be powered via the USB so that must also be disconnected for this operation.

  1. Connect LYNK II USB to Windows Access program to verify that it works.
  2. Switch house to grid.
Setup Sol-Ark to stop battery current.
    •Turn off PV
    •Check 'Use Batt V Charged’
    •Uncheck ‘BMS Lithium Batt’
    •OK
  3. Observe no battery power on the Sol-Ark display
  4. Turned off all BMS
    Unplug LYNK from Windows computer
Unplug/replug each LYNK bus cable from each battery
Unplug battery 3 to LYNK cable to keep LYNK from booting (it is powered via the Cat 6 cable)
  5. Wait 5 minutes
(time for all systems to bleed residual internal power so they will clear their aebus addresses)
  6. Turn on battery 1 BMS (will get first address assignment of 128)
    Wait 30 seconds
  7. Turn on battery 2 BMS (will get second address assignment of 129)
    Wait 30 seconds
  8. Turn on battery 3 BMS (will get second address assignment of 130)
    Wait 30 seconds
  9. Plug in battery 3 to LYNK cable (powers up LYNK to get fourth address assignment of 131)
    Wait 30 seconds
  10. Plug LYNK USB into computer with Windows Access Software
Observe proper sequence numbers of battery 1,2,3
  11. Observe LYNK Cloud for proper battery names and sequence.
  12. Restore Sol-Ark
    •Check 'Use Batt % Charged’
    •Check ‘BMS Lithium Batt’
    •OK
    Turn on PV
    Switch house to Sol-Ark.
