The latest EPEVER charge controllers require version SV200 firmware to enable LiFePO4 battery configuration from the controller display interface. Apparently a support ticket is required to get the SV200 firmware.
After many email exhanges with EPEVER support they provided a wetransfer.com link to download the update archive. It is strange that the firmware is not publicly available.
The download archive includes an installer program, the firmware binary, instructions and drivers for the usb adapter. The EPEVER USB-RS485 adapter cable is required. A Microsoft Windows OS computer is required. Attempts to use Windows 10 in Parallels on a MacOS computer failed to install the drivers (threw and error).
The as-bought software version is listed on a sticker on the XTRA. Along with the model number is SV: 158
in this case. Support did not indicate any way to determine the installed firmware version via the display or Modbus data. After upgrading, an updated sticker will be the mechanism used here.
The hardware details:
- Ampere Time 50Ah LiFePo4 Battery
- EPEVER XTRA2210N-XDS2 Charge Controller
- RTS300R47K3.81A Temperature Sensor and CC-USB-RS485-150U USB cable
A $150 Windows 10 Mode S computer was purchased from Walmart to configure and update the XTRA. The update was successful. Installing one of the drivers threw an error. Selecting "use compatibility mode" fro the error dialog satisfied it.
SV200 added many battery type selections. The display reveals use, sel, gel, fld, fo4, fo8, no3, no6 and no7.
EPEVER support offered this table of settings. It is assumed that the new Battery Type preest options on the display relate to this chart in some manner. Possible correlations to the Battery Type selections have been added to the top of the chart.
In USE (user) mode the following are the only parmeters that can be saved. Assumed translations of the meaning of the values is show.
